This museum houses the geological, archaeological and naturalistic documentation from the district of Bolsena.
The main entrance is dominated by a big Greek marble sarcophagus in the shape of a basin, carved with scenes representing the cult of Bacchus.
In the second hall is placed a Lapidarium with roman epigraphs, while in the geological section, visitors can admire various rock samples including a big "volcanic bomb".
Remains from the Bronze and the Iron Ages discovered in the lake sounding-depth date back to the Metal Age.
Some objects accompanying the dead man trace back to the Etruscan civilization, while pottery, oil-lamps and terracotta objects, such as the renowned "Trono delle pantere" (Panthers' Throne) dedicated to the cult of Bacchus, show the presence of the Roman civilization in the area.
In the medieval section, visitors can still admire the remains of the ancient fortifications of the town as well as a rich exposition of pottery found in the "butti" (pits) of the Fortress. In the end, a naturalistic section is dedicated to the life of peasants in Bolsena and on the shore of the lake.
